The story
One night, two lifetimes, one room.
Fluorescent light. Vinyl chairs. A vending machine that hums like it's keeping a secret. Jayce has been in the ICU waiting room for nine hours when Jeff sits down two seats away and offers him half a sandwich.
What begins as small talk becomes a night-long exchange of memory: first dances and last arguments, the vows people make at twenty-three and the ones they keep at seventy-eight. Jeff tells Jayce about a marriage that is ending. Jayce tells Jeff about a love that has barely begun. Slowly, the room stops being a place of dread and becomes a place where a life gets handed forward.
Waiting Room is a chamber drama about the arithmetic of love — how much time we think we're owed, and what we do with the time we actually get.
